School's out but there plenty of fun and creativity at the Orion Art Center.  Classes and workshops are a fun way to make new friends and keep learning all summer.

Creating with the Sun: Ages 6 to 12                

Thursday, June 28th    3:30 to 5:00

Add some science to art! Kids will have a great time finding and using interesting nature items and solar paper to create a masterpiece. We'll find objects, design an interesting arrangement and let the sun do the rest. Moms don't have to tell them they're learning, they'll just know they're having fun!

Psychedelic Sand Dollars: Ages 8 to 12

Wednesday July 11th    1:30 to 3:30

Love a day at the beach? Love color? Combining them, in the spirit of the sand dollar we will be assembling a great collage. Students will be learning different techniques to create an interesting composition using pastels to add style to their piece. 

Natural Art: Ages 11 to 16

July 12, 19, 26th   4:00 to 5:30

Nature offers so many great materials! We will explore a unique way of sculpting using natural objects such as rocks and leaves to create outside sculpture that continues to enhance itself with the weather. We will also explore colored ice sculpture and Piet Mondrian painting. Working with Nature and art in this way children see how the creative process continues to evolve long after the hands on is done!

Repousse' snakes: Ages 11 to 15

Art alchemy! Kids will love to learn how to transform aluminum into a snake! Using repousse' techniques to create a metal relief, children will have a great time seeing their creations come to life.

Alphabet Art: Ages 8 to 12

Gimme an A! Students will be drawing letters and putting them together to make interesting art designs. Add a letter, add some color and voila! Beautiful!

Birds of the Rainforest: Ages 10 to 16

Rainforest animals are known for their amazing colors. We will be drawing and painting colorful birds that will look wonderful and be a lot easier to take care of than Polly!

Subconscious Painting: Ages 6 to 12  

August 9 and 16th     5:00 - 6:00

We are all, on some level, fascinated by cave paintings, a time when communication and art were fused together. Our actual dreams inspire also, good and nightmare alike. This class will use two different techniques that will first show what it was like for the cave people and then using a different artistic technique, touching the primal side with dreamlike quality.

Exploring with Watercolor: Ages 8 to 13

Sat August 25th   1:00 to 3:00 pm

Weather permitting we will be outside exploring nature to inspire our painting. Rainy day? Lots to do inside when you're creative. Either way there will be much to discover! We'll paint what we find in a way that will give a bright new outlook to your surroundings!

Mapping a Portrait: Ages 11 to 16

August 30th        3:30 to 5:30

Children will learn how a gridding system can help them develop proportions the way some of the greats have done it. By mapping out features first then adding detail, we will be using portraits as a basis for discovering techniques that will lead children on a path to creating realistic, beautiful drawings.   Register Now!
