Do you hear what I hear?
Christmas carolers are making their way to local neighborhoods and A Christmas Story and It's a Wonderful Life are starting to make the rounds on repeat on TV networks.
To get in on the holiday spirit, Patch is creating playlists of Christmas music each day to help spread the cheer.
So here's the deal:
Each day, from today through Christmas, we'll feature a uniquely different, themed Christmas music playlist. Today's theme is Hollywood Christmas. We've hand-picked songs from some of the Christmas movie greats—with a few obscure additions.
You might recognize some of the obvious selections, such as songs from A Charlie Brown Christmas, White Christmas and The Nightmare Before Christmas. But if you've seen Die Hard, you might recognize Run-DMC's "Christmas in Hollis" making its big splash. In Scrooged, a group singalong Al Green and Annie Lennox's rendition of "Put a Little Love in Your Heart" provided some levity in an otherwise dark comedy.
See if you can match the songs with the movie that made the tunes famous.
You can listen here, free and legally (via the free music-streaming service Spotify), without leaving Patch! If you don't have Spotify yet, you'll have to download it from Spotify.com.
But we also want your input. Post in the comments what you'd like to see in future installments. The themes are as follows:
- Dec. 18: Classic Rock Christmas: From Chuck Berry and Beach Boys to Springsteen and Seger, plenty of icons have tackled the holidays.
- Dec. 19: Alternative Christmas (newer rock/folk/indie/alternative Christmas songs, including new-school variations of old-school classics)
- Dec. 20: Pop Christmas (Top 40-style Christmas songs)
- Dec. 21: Gaudy/Obnoxious Christmas songs (Because even the musical equivalent of an ugly sweater deserves its day)
- Dec. 22: Country Christmas (Christmas selections with a tad of twang)
- Today: Hollywood Christmas (Songs you know from Christmas movies)
- Dec. 24: Traditional Christmas (The time-tested standards)
- Dec. 25: Children's Christmas (Singing rodents can apply within)
So go ahead and click "play" at the top of this page. We've also included a virtual fireplace, so be sure to also click "play" on the attached video, then cozy up to some (unconventional) holiday staples.
