When Michigan Atty. Gen. Bill Schuette asked, “Royal Oak do you want to rock?” and “Michigan do you want to roll?” on Monday night, he was serious.
Moments later, after addressing more than 1,000 supporters at the Royal Oak Music Theatre, Mitt Romney described driving to the home of “a fellow that lives in this area.”
“I asked him whether he might come here tonight. I think you know him pretty well,” Romney teased the crowd. “He’s a native son of Detroit. He loves Michigan and he loves Detroit.”
The Republican presidential candidate’s campaign promised to deliver Gov. Rick Snyder and a "special musical guest from Detroit" on his “Earn It” bus tour to Royal Oak.
When the burgundy stage curtains where finally drawn, local music hero Kid Rock belted out his anthem “Born Free” in front of an oversized American flag.
Romney told the crowd Kid Rock asked him, “If you’re elected president will you help me help the city of Detroit?” Romney said he assured him he would.
“And then I said, ‘Given the fact I am willing to do that would you come here and perform a concert tonight for my friends?” Romney said.
After playing one song, Kid Rock shook hands with the Romneys and quickly exited the stage. He offered no comments during his performance or after.
“I thought it was a great touch to have Kid Rock,” said Russ Johnson of Milford. “He epitomizes Detroit and is an icon.”
Jim Perry of Grosse Pointe agreed. “It’s the first time I have saw him,” said the World War II Vet. “He was fantastic.”

Terry,
Interesting, I thought we all have the right of free speech and support who we believe in. Reading your comment, you like Kid Rock and his talents, but since he does not agree with you politically you no longer enjoy his talents. What has this world come to?
Tolerance should be practiced by all regardless of where one stands in their opinions and beliefs.

Actually, he never said he enjoyed Kid Rock and/or his questionable "talents." He just said his opinion of him went down the tubes. I can think someone is talented, and still have a low opinion of him, or I can think someone is a hack, but personally have a high opinion of him. As for Kid Rock, I think he is talentless (along with his 1.7 note singing range) AND I think he's an imbecile. Does that clear things up?

Kid Rock should be ashamed of himself. Mitt Romney (and Rick Santorum and the Republicans, in general) would have let Detroit die and put more workers out of jobs while being against unemployment benefits.

Carrie,
I agree, Terry should have an opinion. I am just asking why all of a sudden Kid Rock's talents are no longer good since he does not agree with Terrry. Either Kid Rock is talented or not in the eye of the beholder, but to all of a sudden say he is no good because he does not agree seems very odd to me.
These are two very different issues and to tie them together does not make sense to me. I find all in-tolerance is a bad thing.

I hear what you are saying Daryl and I'm not saying I will change the channel everytime I hear a song but it certainly makes me question his views. (if he would of sang for Newt, the channel would of been changed, lol)
I think its legit to realize someone has talents and choose to not agree with a political statement or back their views.
Kid Rock is an artist that is protective of his music and statements, he knew what he was doing when he stepped on that stage.

Carrie: Do you study the backgrounds of all the performers you watch or listen to? How about those who use drugs, have criminal backgrounds, support causes you disagree with....I suspect you may be unpleasantly surprised.
I give Kid Rock alot of credit. He truly supports Detroit and Michigan and has not abandoned his roots like most performers (ie..Madonna). New Jersey embraces the "Boss", we have Kid Rock and Bob Seger....Hats off to them both

Wow Just because a singer sings for a candidate you all run to the hills. I love Bruce and U2 but because they play and follow Obama I should no longer like them. Sure glad my upbringing allowed me to see and respect everyone's opinion and political freedoms. And I never vote for the same party, I vote for the candidate which will do what is best for this country. I am very sure he will miss all of you who have decided to tune him out because he sang at a rally. If you knew him at all, you would understand who he is and what he stands for. But hey, form an opinion just because he sang at a rally, it says alot about how much research you really do.

And dont compare my upbringing to yours.

Kid Rock touts "Made in Detroit" shirts which are actually made in India, the Dominican Republic and Ohio... so I guess it's fitting he supports Michigan's forgotten son and his Canadian Chrysler 300.... I say Kid Rock has a brilliant management and PR team!
He added about 10 years to his career by making the transition from Rock to Country (Rock). The Country demographic trends strongly Republican/Conservative. Even if Romney were to lose, Kid can't, he is simply stengthening his identification with his new demographic. It's not political, it's business.

If it only takes one song for each candidate then Play your music Kid. I will remember a deal is a deal. Bob stood up to his part, and walked away quietly. Every one is always so quick to judge. Amazing the perspective of people who are supposed to be tolerant of free speech and other opinions. If one does not agree with them, they attack. This is not what America was founded on. We are seeing the attacks on Kid Rock because he supports Romney.
In a free market you decide to purchase a product based on its value to you. Not because you do not align with their personal beliefs. Tolerance should be practiced by all regardless of the side you are on.

Daryl Thats a double standard. Bob Richie can form an opinion, take a side and let Mitt Romney use his art to make or help people think this politian can relate to the american public. But its not ok for anyone who listens to his music, also grew up in Detroit (well closer than Bob Richie I should say) have an opinion express it. But if we do we are not tolerant of free speech?!
Good thing I didnt talk about my issues with Toby Keith.

Carrie,
Exactly my point, these are two different things. If you like the product buy it, if you do not do not buy it. Now in this political environment we need to understand what their political stand is before we buy the product. Wow, that is very divisive.
I call these two different things, but others do not. That is my opinion, and you have yours. This is a free market and we all make our purchasing decisions based on what we decide is value. Obviously some think political stance is part of the value, I do not. But that is my opinion.

Agree, and it is what it is. You just mentioned the word attack and I thought it was a bit overboard. I dont plan on setting fire to his records and my kids sing Born Free like they are at a Kid Rock concert so I realize he isnt going away anytime soon. I think anytime a public figure takes that kind of stand, they know what they are getting into. I mean look at Obama, best thing he ever did was get Oprah on his side. Public figures sway people either way, its just a fact.

I would like to ask of everyone who is going to vote, now that the debates are over and you possible are still confused or undecided to turn off the news, and dont listen to any more political stuff from either side. Take this time until Nov 6th to think, feel, dream and ask your self where were you then and how are you today, and what do you want for the furture. Do you want to go back and start over with Romney or do you want to continue to go forward even tho it may not of been as fast as some wanted it to be. but we still are going forward a step at a time.Think about your furture, your children, your grandchildren.Take this time to soul search whats good for you and your country and you make your decision. Make sure you vote, we are the voice of what we want and we can and will be heard through our vote.Good luck and best wishes. I will take my own advice now and shut the news of the political fight off so i can truely make a decision based on what i need and want for my country.

billie, good idea. While thinking, do remember that Romney is offering plans to fix the economy in 10 years while criticizing President Obama's progress after only 4; and those plans have been convincingly analyzed as either blowing up the deficit or requiring huge tax increases on the middle class. Note as well the starting point would be very different. Oh, and remember Iran doesn't need Syria to get to the sea, the raw count of the number of ships in the Navy is not a measure of its strength, and there is a difference between pro-choice and multiple choice, and a candidate who cannot announce his support of the equal pay for equal work act does not deserve the privilege of leading the country. That's just a few reasons why at the end of your deliberations, it should be Obama/Biden/Democrats 2012.

Want a Better Economy? History Says Vote Democrat!
Personal disposable income has grown nearly 6 times more under Democratic presidents
Gross Domestic Product (GDP) has grown 7 times more under Democratic presidents
Corporate profits have grown over 16% more per year under Democratic presidents (they actually declined under Republicans by an average of 4.53%/year)
Average annual compound return on the stock market has been 18 times greater under Democratic presidents (If you invested $100k for 40 years of Republican administrations you had $126k at the end, if you invested $100k for 40 years of Democrat administrations you had $3.9M at the end)
Republican presidents added 2.5 times more to the national debt than Democratic presidents
The two times the economy steered into the ditch (Great Depression and Great Recession) were during Republican, laissez faire administrations
