Man Charged in Theft of Assault Rifle in Home Invasion, Has Warrant for Felony Child Abuse
Police charged a man with outstanding warrants, including felony child abuse, in the theft of an AK-47 and home invasion in Orion Township. The following information was supplied by the Oakland County Sheriff's Office's Orion Township substation.
A man was charged this week in the July 7 burglary and home invasion of Orion Township home in which an assualt rifle was taken.
Only July 7, an Orion Township man reported a home invasion at his house in 600 the block of Fernhurst Court. he homeowner said an AK-47 assault rifle was missing, and he suspected the tenant renting his furnished basement was responsible for the burglary.
Two days later, OCSO Orion Township substation detectives assigned to the case and began surveillance of the suspect, Edmund Joseph Proulx, a 29-year old man living in Dryden. Warrants were discovered for felony child abuse and two misdemeanor traffic violations agains Proulx.
OCSO Orion Township detectives arrested him July 12, and Proulx confessed to stealing the AK-47 and selling it to a drug dealer in Flint, according to a release. Further investigation will be conducted by the Flint Police Department to try and recover the weapon.
Poulx was arrainged in front of Judge Nancy Carniak and charged with first degree home invasion (20-year felony) and larceny of a firearm (5-year felony). His bond was set at $75,000 with no chance of posting 10-percent and an additional bond of $75,000 was given for the Child Abuse charge.
Proulx was being held in Oakland County Jail until he is sentenced by Judge Carniak on July 23 at 8:30 a.m.
