Visitor's Guide to the U.S. Senior Open

Here's a list of places in the surrounding area to eat, drink and stay while you watch the U.S. Senior Open.

Many vistors who are unfamiliar with our area will be in town for the 2012 U.S. Senior Open at Indianwood Golf and Country Club, so lets help them out!

We consulted our best source to compile this entertainment guide: our readers!

Angela suggests Mannie's Bagel & Delicatessen for breakfast, and her favorite order is a kona coffee with an everything bagel.

Renee suggests walking around downtown Lake Orion and the Orion Art Center for a souvenir.

Sagebrush Cantina makes a splash among Sandy and many other locals who can't get enough of its Mexican cuisine and margaritas.

Elisabeth recommends Palazzo di Bocce for fine Italian dining, and, of course, a game of Bocce ball!  Not your thing?  A full bar is in the complex to keep you occupied.

Looking for some late night ice cream?  Kelley swears by Cook's Dairy Farm. Although it's a bit of a hike, the heavenly treats and freshness are unmatched.

The surrounding area

Rochester's Royal Park Hotel is THE place to stay in the area, hosting all kinds of celebrities from Paul McCartney to former President George W. Bush.

For dining in Clarkston, Alison says the Union Woodshop is your wood-fired barbecue destination, complete with collard greens and sauces from across the country.

Farmer's markets

Lake Orion's Farmer's Market is Wednesday next to Children's Park from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.

The farmer's market in Rochester is open for business on Saturday at E. Third and Water streets from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

I'm working the open as a volunteer - here are a few tips:

Parking is free - paying someone near the clubhouse to park in their yard results you having to walk further than the free shuttle bus drop off.

Watch out for resold tickets on line - $75.00 for "all access" is $40.00 on-site for the same thing.

Tickets can be purchased at Krogers or on-site at the shuttle-bus drop off.

Have fun!
