Your Guide to Summer Reading
Here you go Lake Orion and Oakland Township: 54 book recommendations, for preschoolers and teen-agers and every kid in between.
The summer reading programs at the Orion Township Public Library and the Rochester Hills Public Library are under way. You can register, still, at the libraries or online; both programs provide prizes and incentives for readers.
But what to read?
This year's program is "Dream Big ... Read" and in that spirit, we offer you and your kiddos 54 book recommendations, brought to you by Patch and ReadKiddoRead, a program developed by bestselling author James Patterson.
These are books that, in Patterson's words, will have your kids finish the last page and then say: "Give me another one just like that."
Watch this video interview of Patterson for details about his program. Then, check out these lists, divided by age, of recommended pageturners.
- For preschoolers and kids through age 7: Caps for Sale by Esphyr Slobodkina and more.
- For kids ages 6 through 9: The Houdini Box By Brian Selznick and more.
- For kids ages 8 through 12: Dead End in Norvelt by Jack Gantos and more.
- For tweens and teens: One Crazy Summer by Rita Williams-Garcia and more.
