BAKER COLLEGE OF AUBURN HILLS OFFERS SUMMER DIGITAL TECHNOLOGY WORKSHOPS

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. – Baker College of Auburn Hills is offering short summer workshops for professionals, high school students and others interested in honing their digital technology skills or learning new ones.

The subject areas are animation, 3-D printing, programming, online games and digital sculpting.

Sessions begin June 23 and continue through July. Each workshop features two to three classes (lasting three hours each) and ranges from $100 to $150. Space is limited.

“The goal is to spur life-long interest in the wide array of digital technology opportunities,” said Beth Nuccio, director for career services at Baker College of Auburn Hills, noting that there are more than 700 unfilled technology jobs in the Detroit-area on dice.com, a career website. “Additional IT professionals are needed. Being familiar with the emerging forms of technology is crucial for professionals already in their careers as well as young adults exploring academic options as they enter their college preparatory years.”

Nine workshops focus on animation and will be offered at various times during the day in June and July:

·  Exploring Animation – 2-D Motion Graphics with Adobe After Effects: Participants will learn the fundamentals of motion graphics to create an animated commercial.

·  Exploring Animation – Chroma Keying and Rotoscoping Special Effects with After Effects: Participants will learn to blend real-world elemental effects with video footage.

·  Exploring Animation Character Design for Gaming: Participants will use Adobe Photoshop to create 32-bit characters. Knowledge of Photoshop is encouraged.

·  Exploring Game Development – Level Design for Maze Gaming: Participants will learn how to design and create basic 2-D maze games.

·  Exploring Animation – Character Design and Story: Participants will learn how to design characters whose appearance and personalities relate to a story.

·  Exploring Animation – Storyboards: Participants will learn how to create a storyboard based on a script using multiple camera shots, timing, pacing and expressions. This is a continuation of the Character Design and Story Workshop.

·  Exploring Game Development – Level Design for Platform Gaming: Participants will design and create a basic 2-D platform game incorporating game-play theory, story and characters.

·  Exploring Animation – Animatics using Adobe After Effects: Participants will create an animated motion graphic based on their storyboard renderings from the storyboard workshop.

·  Exploring Animation – Stop Motion Animation with Claymation: Participants will learn how to create characters from modeling clay and pose them in incremental stages for individual camera shots. Shots will then be assembled in sequence using Adobe After Effects.

Workshops that involve programming, 3-D printing, online games and sculpting are each offered once in late July, weekdays, 6-9 p.m.:

·  Exploring Game Programming – Language Basics: This is for anyone without programming background to learn to program games, applications and web.

·  Exploring Game Programming – HTML5 games for the beginner: Participants will build novice online games such as Pong, Memory and Flipping Card Game. Basic programming knowledge and familiarity with HTML, CSS and JavaScript is recommended.

·  Exploring 3-D printing – Creative Designs: Participants will learn to use 3-D modeling applications to design and build items such as buttons, coins, key chains and block characters.

·  Exploring 3-D Printing – Matchbox Car: Participants will learn to use 3-D modeling applications to design and build a matchbox-sized car.

·  Exploring Digital Sculpting – Getting started with Mudbox: Participants will be introduced to Autodesk’s 3-D digital sculpting and painting software tool, Mudbox.
