Community Corner

Oakland Township HDC Looking for a Commissioner to join.

The Charter Township of Oakland is seeking an architect, historian, or archaeologist with an interest in historic preservation to volunteer for the Township’s Historic District Commission (HDC).  Oakland Township residents who are interested in the preservation, protection and promotion of the Township’s historic resources meet monthly with a seven member commission.  Terms are three years in length.  The HDC investigates requests for establishing or changing historic districts, guides homeowners in planned work on resources and researches potential districts.  The upcoming term will preside over the implementation of a new strategic plan.  The HDC manages Cranberry Lake Farm (CLF) Historic District, part of a Township owned park, as a community historical center.  Commissioners will play a very important role in revitalizing CLF, collaborate with the Oakland Township Historical Society, and impact our community in a positive way.  For further information contact Historic Preservation Planner, Barbara Barber at bbarber@oaklandtownship.org or call 248-608-6807.
