MSP Report: Lake Orion, Rochester Schools Bus Inspection Results

Michigan State Police bus safety inspections determine what school buses make the grade.

Bus inspections

In a recently released report, MSP states that Lake Orion Community Schools received 70 "pass" marks out of a total of 70 bus safety inspections during the third quarter of 2013. Rochester Community Schools got 113 "pass," one "yellow" and three "red" ratings during the same time frame, according to the MSP report.

What rankings mean

A "pass" means the total number of school buses deemed to be in satisfactory condition. A "yellow" notes buses in unsatisfactory conditions but are safe for operation. Meanwhile, a "red" signifies buses in unsafe conditions, according to Michigan State Police.

"Michigan law requires the repair of all red tag items before placing that bus back into passenger service," MSP states.

The law enforcement agency conducts school bus inspections beginning each Sept. 1 and ending each Aug. 31. The findings are posted after each Sept. 1.
