Garage is open for dinner daily at 5 p.m.; it is expected to open for lunch by early December. The restaurant gets its name from the building's historic use as a gas station. It was first built in the 1940s as an Atchinson Gulf service station. The restaurant is located at 202 W. Main St.

Stoney River Steakhouse in Birmingham: The City Commission approved plans to turn the former Max & Erma's spot at 250 Merrill St. into a steakhouse.  Fred Timm, president of the Stoney River chain, said his restaurants offer high-quality service at a lower price point than most steakhouses, with entrees in the $35-$40 range. Timm said he had hoped to open in April 2013 but may have to push that date back depending on the city's plan to replace the sidewalks along Merrill next spring.
