Lake Orion Welcomes Simply Marcella to Downtown

Residents got their first peek at the new boutique at Tuesday's ribbon-cutting ceremony.

The way Alaina Campbell sees it, stepping into in downtown Lake Orion is like stepping into a shop in Paris.

Campbell, the executive director of the Orion Area Chamber of Commerce, expressed her excitement just before the ribbon cutting ceremony, officially welcoming Simply Marcella to the downtown business district.

“We’re so happy to be here,” Marcella Costin, owner of the new Lake Orion business said.

After running a successful business in St. Clair, Costin decided it was time to open a second store, opting for the storefront at 34 S. Broadway.

"I feel relieved and ecstatic," Costin said of opening her second store. "I hope that everything goes smoothly and people love this store as much as we do."

Simply Marcella is a chic boutique that is stocked with pearl necklaces and earrings, along with silk scarves, coats, purses, belts, soaps, bathing suit cover-ups and more. Costin makes the majority of the products in her store, including all of the pearl jewelry. Very few jewelry pieces in the store are made with faux pearls, she said.

Like Campbell, Executive Director Suzanne Perreault is thrilled with the new boutique.

"I think we could not have a better business here than you," Perreault said, directing her comments at Costin.

Tracey Manthey, Costin's sister who will be working as the operations director of the store, moved to Lake Orion three weeks ago for the new venture and said she loves Lake Orion already and that everyone has been very welcoming.

In addition to members of the Lake Orion community, people from Shelby Township, Utica, Troy and other surrounding areas came to join in the celebration.

"We love boutique shopping because you see things you don't see everywhere else," Diane Bedore of St. Clair said. "You can never come in here and see the same stuff."

Sheri Milson, 53, of Shelby Township was blown away by the presentation of the shop and the "gorgeous details" Costin puts into everything in the store.

"You walk in thinking this is a really expensive boutique, but the prices on a lot of things are very reasonable,” Milson said.

Sue Steinhagen, who ventured from Troy for the opening ceremony, said that she has shopped at Simply Marcella in St. Clair and is thrilled that there is now a closer boutique because it's such a "fun place to shop."

"She has such great style," Steinhagen said of Costin.
