Save Money, Shop Sales: Healthy Goods

We scoped out some good sales around Oakland Township for all your healthy eating needs.

Ash Wednesday is here, and if you gave up some of your favorite sugary sweets for Lent, take a look at some of the healthy treats on sale this week. Please note, to activate some of the following deals, you must have a membership shopping card.

  1. CVS
    Deal:
    Put away the Valentine's Day chocolate and grab some Kellogg's Nutri-Grain cereal bars and Fiber Plus chewy bars, which are on sale for two for $5 this week. Kellogg's Raisin Bran and Raisin Bran Crunch, 15- to 18.02-ounce boxes, are also on sale, three boxes for $7.
    Good through: Saturday
  2. Whole Foods Market
    Deal:
    Fruit makes a great snack, and Murcott tangerines are 20 percent off their regular price, with a 3-pound bag costing $3.99. If you gave up meat, tilapia fillets are also 20 percent off this week and cost $7.99 per pound.
    Good through: Tuesday
  3. Hollywood Market, 1101 S. Lapeer Rd. in Lake Orion
    Deal:
    If ice cream is the guilty pleasure you gave up — or are working hard to stay away from — substitute it with Yoplait yogurt. Original, light and whipped varieties of Yoplait yogurt in 4- to 6-ounce containers are on sale for 10 for $5.
    Good through: Monday
  4. Kroger
    Deal:
    Red and white seedless grapes are on sale this week for 10 pounds for $10. If you're looking for more fruit, a 3-pound bag of California mandarin oranges costs $3.99, and a 5-pound bag costs $5.99.

  5. Papa Joe's Gourmet Market
    Deal:
    If you're looking to make some healthful meals, red ripe beefsteak tomatoes cost 69 cents per pound, and asparagus costs $1.49 per pound this week. Plus, boneless, skinless chicken breast costs $1.99 per pound in the fresh meat section of Papa Joe's.
