Butterfly Bake Shoppe Closes, Treat Dreams Holds Winter Break Camp and More Restaurant News

Butterfly Bake Shoppe in Berkley: The beloved bakery's last day in operation was Dec. 22. Dawn Schwanke, owner of the 2012 Readers' Choice award-winner, created everything from cookies for community events to a birthday cake for Motown star Martha Reeves. Schwanke closed up shop so she can spend more time with her family. She plans to keep customers apprised of her plans for the future on the Butterfly Bake Shoppe Facebook page. 

51 North Brewery in Lake Orion: The former gas station that has been transformed into a restaurant and brewery is slated to open soon. It will offer six microbrews and healthy comfort food made from fresh ingredients. "Thanks for being so interested in our brewery," said the latest post on 51 North's Facebook page Dec. 16. "With 95% of everything being ready we anxiously look forward to the next 5%." The brewery will be located at 51 N. Broadway in downtown Lake Orion.

Treat Dreams in Ferndale: The quirky ice cream shop is offering winter break camp Jan. 2-4 for students ages 8-12 and 13-16. Campers will learn the art of ice cream making and then work together to create two original flavors that will be sold the following day as part of Treat Dreams' daily flavors. To register for a Winter Break Ice Cream Camp, call Treat Dreams at (248) 544-3440; space is limited. Treat Dreams is located at 22965 Woodward Ave. The micro-creamery is open 12-9 p.m. Monday through Thursday, as well as Sunday, and from noon to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

Apparently, Seasonings, the cute little cafe-type restaurant in Goodison also closed. Is that location doomed?
