VIDEO: 'Jane of All Trades' Documents Michigan Film Industry

The documentary by Hamtramck native and "Freaky Deaky" crew member Teena Constas premieres soon.

For assistant locations manager Teena Constas, the are hitting especially close to home.

So close, in fact, that she's making a documentary about it.

"I was originally born and raised in Detroit," Constas said. "I was in Chicago working in the film industry, and when the tax incentive was passed in Michigan, I knew that the opportunity was going to be great here."

Constas moved back to Michigan in 2008 after the state introduced the film incentives, and she has been documenting her return home ever since.

Constas, who currently lives in Hamtramck, was Friday on the set of "Freaky Deaky" in , where the crew is composed almost entirely of Michigan residents.

"I started documenting my process back to Michigan for journaling purposes," she said. "When the tax incentive got reduced, immediately 10 movies pulled out within that week."

Since then, Constas said she has been recording the effects of the incentive cuts on the industry.

"It's just really sad what's going on right now, and how many movies have pulled away," she said.

"I just want to show how beneficial it is for this industry to stay here in Michigan."

Constas said she plans to premiere her documentary Jane of All Trades: The Rise and Fall of the Michigan Film Industry in October or November at Ann Arbor's State Theater.
