5 Things to Know This Week: GOP Debate, Snow, Elections and More

Here's what's happening this week in Oakland Township.

From the Republican debate to school board elections and (gulp) snow, there's plenty happening in and around Oakland Township this week to keep you busy.

Here are a few things we thought you should know:

The GOP Debate is coming to OU: Eight candidates have confirmed participation in Wednesday's at , including Michele Bachmann, Herman Cain, Newt Gingrich, Jon Huntsman, Ron Paul, Rick Perry, Mitt Romney and Rick Santorum. There's snow in the forecast: Ready or not, here it comes: snow is in the forecast for Wednesday night into Thursday, according to the National Weather Service in Detroit/Pontiac. Highs today and tomorrow will be near 60, and there's a chance of showers starting this evening. Wednesday will likely be rainy, and Wednesday night brings a slight chance of rain and snow showers into Thursday. Veterans Day (Friday) and Saturday are forecast to be cool and dry.

No school for RCS students: Children who attend are off today and tomorrow for professional development and election day, respectively. School resumes for students on Wednesday. If you're looking for things to do with the kids while they're home from school, check out our event calendar.

School board elections are Tuesday: Voters in the district will for six-year terms on the Board of Education on Tuesday. Tom Malysz, Jeremy Nielson, Jane Pierobon, Pat Piskulich and Beth Talbert are on the ballot; of the five, Talbert is the only candidate currently serving on the board of education. Trustee Marty Sibert and President Barb Cenko, whose terms are set to expire at the end of this year, did not file for re-election.

Board of Trustees will meet on Wednesday (not Tuesday): The Oakland Township Board of Trustees will meet at on Wednesday at 7 p.m. The change was made because the board's regularly scheduled Tuesday meeting conflicted with election day.
