5 Things to Know This Week

Here are a few things to know about this week in Oakland Township.

  1. Spring is coming: We're in for a warm-up this week, and just in time for the first day of Spring on Sunday. There's rain in the forecast Tuesday through Friday, and high temperatures will be in the upper 40s to mid 50s all week. We may even flirt with 60 degrees on Friday.
  2. Two township meetings: The Zoning Board of Appeals is meeting Tuesday at 7 p.m. at and will discuss the setback of a cellular tower near Orion and Collins roads. The Historic District Commission will meet Wednesday at at 7 p.m. All meetings are open to the public; please see attached meeting agendas.
  3. Six superintendent interviews: The candidates for superintendent will be interviewed beginning at 6 tonight and continue Wednesday and Thursday. Candidates include a former Rochester principal, a current Rochester administrator and a longtime Rochester Hills resident. See for details about who is interviewing when.
  4. Basketball — from high school to pro: It's a hoops kind of week around town. Today is at the Adams Road  where player Rodney Stuckey will be around from 5 -6 p.m. to sign autographs. In high school regional playoffs action, plays Pontiac High School in Southfield at 7 p.m. In NCAA  madness, the Grizzlies play the Texas Longhorns in on Friday. Tip-off is 12:15 p.m. in Tulsa.
  5. St. Patrick's Day: This Thursday is St. Patrick's Day, and there are many places nearby where you can go to grab a green beer and celebrate (we'll have a list of our picks for you by tomorrow). Oakland Township Patch and Rochester Patch will also be live-blogging from beginning at 6 a.m., so check back with us this Thursday. And for a family-friendly celebration, the Rochester Avon Recreation Authority is hosting a on Saturday from 10 a.m.-noon for kids 3-5 years old. The cost is $15; call 248-656-8308 to register.
