5 Things to Know This Week

Here's what's happening in Oakland Township this week.

Wet weather: Oakland Township residents can expect a wet week with forecasts showing showers through Thursday. Tuesday and Thursday’s forecast calls for scattered showers, while Monday and Wednesday it’s expected to rain the majority of the day. Residents can expect highs to remain in the mid-60 degrees and lows in the bottom 50 degrees through the majority of the week. Sunny skies are paired with a drop in temperature on Friday with a high of 54 degree to continue through the weekend.

Two Township meetings this week: The meeting will take place Tuesday evening at 7 p.m. at . After postponing action at September 13 meeting, the agreement for habital restoration and dam removal is still on the agenda. The Oakland Township will meet Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the Paint Creek Cider Mill building. A couple of contracts are up for approval and a parks and trail planner report will be presented at the meeting.

A school assembly: Rarely do parents get to observe the assemblies that their students do, but this week parents will get the opportunity to watch the same assembly as their children. On September 29 at 7 p.m. parents are invited to auditorium to watch Rachel’s Challenge. The presentation was prepared after Rachel Scott was killed at Columbine High School in 1999 and will be presented in front of middle school students throughout the week. This presentation is meant to inspire students to make positive changes and treat each other well.

Bookmobile: If rain puts you in the mood to cuddle up with a book, make sure to catch the at the beginning of the week while it makes its rounds through Oakland Township. From 5:15-6:15 p.m. Monday night the bookmobile will set up shop outside of S & M Market and will be outside from 7:15-8:15 p.m Monday. 

Homecomings: Spirits will be high this week for Adams High School and Stoney Creek High School students participating in spirit week festivities leading up to homecoming. Adams High School's homecoming football game kicks off at 7 p.m. on Friday vs. Oxford and  plays Southfield-Lathrup High School at 7 p.m. on Friday for its homecoming. Both homecoming dances are set for Saturday night.
