Elevated Ozone Levels Trigger Air Quality Alert, Ozone Action Day for Friday

Pollutants are expected to be in the unhealthy-for-sensitive-groups range through Friday, says the National Weather Service.

The National Weather Service has issued an air quality alert for Friday, and the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality has declared Friday an ozone action day due to elevated levels of ozone.

It is recommended that active children, adults and those with respiratory diseases like asthma limit prolonged outdoor exertion.

Individuals and businesses are urged to avoid activities that can lead to ozone formation, such as refueling vehicles, using gasoline-powered lawn equipment and using charcoal lighter fluid, according to the National Weather Service.

The NWS recommends carpooling, delaying or combining errands and using water-based paints to limit the amount of pollutants.
