Feds Call Off Oakland Township Hoffa Search

Hoffa disappeared in July 1975 after last being seen at the Machus Red Fox in Bloomfield Township and has long believed to have been murdered.

The search for Jimmy Hoffa in Oakland Township is over.

The FBI says it found no remains of the former union leader.

Hoffa disappeared in July 1975 after last being seen at the Machus Red Fox in Bloomfield Township and has long believed to have been murdered. Investigators searched an area off of Buell Road at Adams and Orion roads, with hopes of finding Hoffa's body on Monday, Tuesday and early Wednesday.

"After a diligent search pursuant to our responsibilities under the search warrant, we did not uncover any evidence relative to the investigation relevant to James Hoffa," said Robert Foley, the special agent in charge of the FBI's Detroit division, according to the Detroit News.

The FBI was following a tip from the 85-year-old Anthony J. Zerilli,  a close confidant of Hoffa who claims to be one of the few remaining people with intimate knowledge of the events leading to Hoffa's mysterious disappearance.

According to Zerilli's account, which he is selling on his website, www.hoffafound.com, Hoffa was buried beneath a slab where a barn once stood on the Oakland Township property.

The activity drew a number of curious onlookers throughout the week, forced to look from a distance because of Sheriff's patrols parked on Buell Road at both ends of the property.
