UPDATE: Severe Thunderstorm Warning Expired; 487 Customers Without Power in Oakland Township

The severe thunderstorm warning has expired, but 487 customers are without power in Oakland Township.

10:30 p.m. Saturday – Thunderstorms rolled through the area around 7:30 p.m., and one woman reported pea-sized hail at her home in Oakland Township.

According to the DTE Energy outage map, 487 customers in northwestern Oakland Township – in the area of Kline and Predmore roads – are without power Saturday evening with no estimated time of restoration. The outage is "due to an auto-protection device," according to the map.

6:45 p.m. Saturday – The National Weather Service in Pontiac has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for northern Oakland County until 7:30 p.m.

A line of severe thunderstorms capable of producing quarter-sized hail and damaging winds in excess of 60 miles per hour are located along a line extending from Oxford to six miles north of Milford, moving east at 25 miles per hour, according to the National Weather Service.

The storm is expected to hit the Rochester Hills/Rochester/Oakland Township area around 7:20 p.m.

The National Weather Service advises seeking immediate protection in an interior room of your home or business.

9:45 a.m. Friday – The National Weather Service in Pontiac has issued a hazardous weather outlook for southeastern Michigan effective until Thursday. Thunderstorms, possibly severe, could develop today and tomorrow; more wet and possibly severe weather is predicted for early next week.

Friday: Thunderstorms are possible as storm activity moves into the region from northern lower Michigan or develops overhead due to increasingly hot and humid conditions, according to the NWS. The best chance for storms today will be from 8 p.m.-midnight (just in time for ).

Saturday: Scattered storms are still possible throughout the day as a cold front moves into southeastern Michigan. There's a slight risk for severe weather in the late afternoon and evening.

Sunday and Monday (July 3 & 4): Temperatures will be slightly cooler, and the humidity will be considerably lower. Sunday is forecast to be dry and partly cloudy with a high of 83; the big holiday will be dry and sunny with a high of 81 (in other words: perfect).

Tuesday and Wednesday: The next low pressure system will move in Monday, bringing with it a renewed chance of showers and thunderstorms Tuesday night through Wednesday night.
