Lake Orion Schools to Hold Community-wide Pep Rally

Lake Orion Schools will celebrate the new school year with a community-wide pep rally.

Lake Orion Schools will celebrate the beginning of the school year with a first-ever community-wide pep rally from 7-8:30 p.m. on Aug. 17. The even will be held at Children’s Park in downtown Lake Orion.

The pep rally is being held in conjunction with the Downtown Development Authority to honor the fall sports teams and dedicate the new streetscape project, which included improvements to the park.

“I think it’s going to be real exciting,” Bill Reiss, athletic director for Lake Orion Schools said. “We have a tremendous community that supports the sports of Lake Orion. ... It will be great for our fans to come out and see everyone at one time.

"It’s great to be part of the celebration of the whole area," he continued. "The downtown is looking beautiful. We’re proud of their work there.”

The varsity and junior varsity dance and cheerleading teams will perform, and there will be a brick dedication for the Lake Orion Schools 2010 state championship varsity football team.

But the football team is not the only team that will be honored. There will be special recognitions for the girls’ volleyball team, which won the district championship; the boys’ lacrosse team, which won the league championship; the hockey team, which made it to the state semifinals; and the varsity cheerleading team, which won a regional title.

All the fall teams will be introduced, including girls’ golf, boys’ and girls’ cross country, girls’ swim, girls’ tennis, boys’ soccer and football.

Students go back to school Sept. 6, but the season has already begun for the fall sports teams, Reiss said.
