12 Things To Keep You Busy This Weekend

There will be Basset Hounds waddling, an art show, a carnival, a Dragon Dash, book sales and more around Oakland Township and Lake Orion.

Here's what's happening this weekend in and around Oakland Township and Lake Orion:

  1. : On Sunday expect to see many local Dragons participating in the 8K run and walk. Registration opens at 7 a.m. at Civic Center Park. The walk starts at 8:30 a.m. and runners will begin the course at 9 a.m. Registration is $15.
  2. : This is the third and final weekend that residents will be working on cleaning up Mill Race Trail. Help pitch in this Saturday, starting at 9 a.m. 
  3. : The Canterbury Village Waddle, which consists of a Renaissance-themed parade of Basset Hounds waddling for 10 blocks, starts at 1 p.m. on Sunday. Other activities will begin starting at 10 a.m. at Canterbury Village. Basset Hounds can also be seen from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday at Orion Oaks Dog Park for the .
  4. : A carnival, beer tent, best burger contest, skate park and more will be part of the festivities in downtown Oxford this weekend.
  5. Used Books Sales: The Orion Township Public Library Used Book Sale continues through Saturday. For information on sale hours click . The Rochester Hills Public Library Used Book Sale runs through Sunday. For information on sale hours click
  6. : This annual walkathon along the Paint Creek Trail on Sunday raises money for retired greyhound dogs, but you don't have to have a greyhound to participate.
  7. : Billed as "mod, madcap and must-see," this performance by Full Impact Theater promises "mesmerizing drama." It's on stage at the Older Persons' Commission.
  8. The Avon Players perform this sweet story on stage starting this weekend. Tickets are $16-$18.
  9. : The juried art fair will be open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and noon to 6 p.m. Sunday. There will be free entertainment and children's activities, too.
  10. : From I Love Ewesy and Captain Jack Spbaarow to Lady Baa Baa, the Hollywood-themed sheep are coming to downtown Rochester. They'll be on a red carpet of sorts at a special premier event from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday near the Downtown Farmers' Market lot.
  11. : Old-fashioned games will be the highlight of this annual event at Rochester Hills Museum at Van Hoosen Farm on Saturday. There will be animals, music and schoolhouse activities for the whole family.
  12. : This annual event was rained out last year, but the forecast this year is just right for thousands of rubber ducks to float down the Paint Creek inside Rochester Municipal Park. Festivities begin at 1 p.m. Sunday.
