Orion Township Junior Girl Scout Troop Helps Pet Adoption Center

The girls produced a public service announcement with ONTV's help to raise awareness for pets in need.

Junior Girl Scout Troop 13354 from in Orion Township wrote and produced their own public service announcement on behalf of the Oakland Pet Adoption Center (OPAC) to raise money and awareness for "pets in need." The video, "Oakland Pet Adoption Center PSA," was produced with the assistance of Orion Neighborhood Television or ONTV.

"The junior girl scouts from Troop 13354 did an outstanding job raising awareness about the shelter and animals available for adoption," said Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson. "I am grateful for the public service they have performed."

As part of its service project, Troop 13354 had to choose a local nonprofit in their community to highlight. The 14 junior girl scouts chose OPAC because of their love of animals and desire to help educate the public about responsible pet ownership and animal welfare. Throughout the month of April, they are playing the video at school and on Orion Neighborhood Television in order to raise money for the shelter.

Troop 13354 Leader Sheri Rourke of Lake Orion said her junior girl scouts’ efforts brought tears to her eyes.

"Children have a voice that strongly needs to be heard," Rourke said. "When I saw the video, I said, 'This is exactly why I do what I do'" with the junior girl scouts.
