Oxford Teen Killed in Dirt Bike Accident

A funeral service for Tyler James Flook, 18, will be held Monday in Orion Township. Witnesses said he crashed his dirt bike into a parked car while doing "wheelies."

An Oxford teenager who had just graduated from high school and planned to attend Michigan State University in the fall died Sunday of injuries sustained while reportedly doing “wheelies” on his dirt bike and struck a parked car,  the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office said.

Tyler James Flook, 18, was transported to McLaren Oakland Hospital after the accident, which occurred around 9:30 p.m. in the 2300 block of Granger Road, and died Sunday, The Oakland Press reports.

“I don’t think it will ever set in for me that he is gone … I stayed by his side in the ER, holding his hand and telling him to come back” his older sister, Felicia, told the newspaper.

“He’s too young,” she said “I will miss seeing him interact with his nephews, and reciting every line from a movie … Most of all I will miss his beautiful smile and his little hair flip he did. He was definitely a great kid.”

The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office is still investigating the accident. Witnesses told authorities Flook had been doing “wheelies” when he hit the parked truck and was thrown from the bike, causing him serious head trauma, the newspaper reported.

Dominique Howard, a close friend of Tyler told the Oakland Press “ We got to laugh, talk about old times such as when we used to play Barbies with his little sister Rylee. We also have talked about hanging out soon. Before he left, he gave me a big hug and told me he loved me said,” said Howard. “It literally feels like half of my heart has been ripped out of my chest because it feels so unreal that that my little brother has been taken away from not only me but the rest of his family, friends, teachers and girlfriend.”

Flook’s funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, July 7 at Modetz Funeral Home in Orion Township. Condolences may be left on an online guest book
