5 Lake Orion Teens Injured in Crash

The 16-year-old driver was air-lifted to Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak in critical condition.

Five Lake Orion teenagers were hospitalized Monday after a two-car crash on Adams Road in Oakland Township.

Two of the teens, including the 16-year-old driver, were in critical condition. 

The crash happened at 4:06 p.m. at the intersection of Adams and Clarkston roads, according to a report from the .

The teenagers were traveling west on Clarkston Road in a 2006 Saturn Ion when the driver ran the stop sign at Adams Road and was hit on the driver's side by a 2007 Dodge Nitro driven by a 51-year-old Oakland Township woman, the report stated. 

The driver of the Dodge Nitro and her 1-year-old passenger were not injured. The driver of the Saturn was air-lifted by helicopter to Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak. The passengers were:

  • A 17-year-old, transported to McLaren Hospital in Pontiac in stable condition.
  • A 14-year-old, transported to McLaren Hospital in stable condition.
  • A 14-year-old, transported to McLaren Hospital in stable condition.
  • A 15-year-old, transported to McLaren Hospital and then transferred to Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak in critical condition.

It is not known whether the occupants of the Saturn were wearing seat belts. Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash, the report stated.
