Community Member Helps Kids Retrieve Bike From Thief

Highlights from Lake Orion Police Department reports from the past week:

On Saturday evening an Oakland Township man helped retrieve a bike that had been stolen from teenage boys eating at in Lake Orion.

According to Police Chief Jerry Narsh, three 13-year-old boys were eating at Wendy's on Saturday and saw a man come in, use the restroom at Wendy's, exit the fast food joint and then kneel down by the boys' bikes. Narsh said the boys recollected that the man pretended to tie his shoe then jumped on one of the bikes and rode off southbound on Lapeer Road.

An 68-year-old Oakland Township man pulling out of the drive-thru window at Wendy's witnessed the scene and drove after the man who stole the bike. According to Narsh, after turning onto Heights Road the man realized he was being followed, dropped the bike and hopped into a vehicle with a man and woman inside and sped away. The good samaritan, as Narsh described the Oakland Township man, contacted the Lake Orion Police Department and deputies arrived on the scene, recovered the bike and returned it to the teens, said Narsh.

Kids fight in Meek's Park

A sixth grader and an eighth grader met at on Tuesday evening planning to fight each other, according to Lt. Herold Rossman. The planned fight drew a crowd of kids to the park. The Lake Orion Police Department was contacted to break up the fight, said Rossman, who noted that when they arrived at the scene the two weren't fighting, but the police offers did break up the crowd.
