The 60-year-old woman said she believed the jewelry, a ring and two pairs of earrings, was stolen Dec. 9. On that day, she took her dogs out for a walk for about 20 minutes. No one else was in the house at the time. When she returned and entered through the back door, one of her dogs began barking and she saw someone in a black hoodie running out her front door. At the time nothing appeared to be missing, so she didn’t report the incident, she said.

The 19-year-old woman was visiting her boyfriend, who had been drinking, at his home on Silver Bell when he indicated he would harm himself or others. After she called police, the man fled. A tracking dog was brought to the scene. Deputies were able to find the man at an Oakland Township location by tracking his cell phone. He was taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital for mental-health evaluation.

Driver flees scene of accident

A 31-year-old New York man was arrested at a home in Oakland Township Dec. 14 after allegedly fleeing an injury accident at Orion and Dutton roads.

Shortly after midnight police and firefighters were called to the scene, where a witness stated that a vehicle struck an electric pole and a subject left the scene on foot. The vehicle involved was registered to an Oakland Township resident who lives on Livernois. Deputies went to that address and saw someone run inside the house and lock the doors. They were able to convince him to come out and he was arrested on a charge of operating while impaired.

The intersection at Orion and Dutton was temporarily closed. DTE responded to the scene to replace the pole.
