A woman called the Oakland County Sheriff's Office shortly after 3 a.m. on April 13 to report that her intoxicated 22-year-old son was breaking down the door to their home at the 400 block of Elm Court in Oakland Township, according to an incident report.
When deputies arrived at the scene, they found the woman's son had fled the area on foot, but later returned to tell deputies his 50-year-old father was in the woods bleeding, the report indicated.
Deputies determined the father was trying to commit his son for psychiatric treatment at Crittenton Hospital when his son jumped out of the car on Rochester Road near Predmore, according to the report. Deputies requested a police dog to help locate the father in the area where he was last seen, the report indicated. A helicopter search also was requested at about 4:40 a.m.
At about 5:05 a.m., the father was found by deputies in a barn at the 600 block of Predmore, where he had sought refuge and the Oakland Township Fire Department was contacted for medical treatment. The father had a small cut on the back of his head that he told deputies he received when he fell while looking for his son in the woods.
Police took the son to Crittenton Hospital for a mental health evaluation.
