Witnesses said they didn't feel threatened by the man, who was relieved of his hatchet and committed to a hospital for psychiatric treatment.

A man quoting Scripture and asking Orion Township residents if they believed in God – while holding a hatchet – was taken into custody Thursday and admitted to an area hospital under an involuntary mental health commitment.

Oakland County Sheriff’s deputies were called to the area of Chalice and MInton about 3 p.m. after receiving reports that the man was going door-to-door, The Detroit News reports.
