A man quoting Scripture and asking Orion Township residents if they believed in God – while holding a hatchet – was taken into custody Thursday and admitted to an area hospital under an involuntary mental health commitment.
Oakland County Sheriff’s deputies were called to the area of Chalice and MInton about 3 p.m. after receiving reports that the man was going door-to-door, The Detroit News reports.
He also reportedly tried to stop cars at a nearby elementary school.
Witnesses said the man didn’t threaten them with the hatchet, which authorities confiscated.
This isn’t the first time the sheriff’s department has had encounters with the man, according to the report.
