Deputy Injured During Assault Arrest; Tracking Dog Helps Find Lake Orion Boy
After allegedly assaulting his mother, a New York man resisted arrest. An Oakland County Sheriff's deputy was injured in the incident.
A 24-year-old New York City man has been charged in an alleged assault at his mother’s Lake Orion home and the subsequent injury to an Oakland County Sheriff’s deputy.
Philip J. Hall was arraigned Monday in 52-3 District Court before Magistrate Melinda Balian. He was charged with one count of assaulting, resisting and obstructing a police officer, a felony, and one count of domestic violence, a misdemeanor. He was released on $10,000 bond (cash 10 percent) and is due back in court Nov. 6 before Judge Julie Nicholson.
Deputies responded to the 500 block of Bunny Run Oct. 28 on a report of family trouble. The resident wanted her son to leave her home because he was intoxicated, argumentative and had been in an altercation with his brother.

Deputies removed him from the home and placed him in custody, but he resisted being handcuffed. He was taken to the ground but, during the altercation, a deputy injured his hand. Hall was not injured.
Hall was taken to jail. The deputy drove himself to an Oxford clinic for treatment.

Tobacco, alcohol sold to minors
Deputies using underage decoys ticketed employees at four Orion Township establishments Oct. 23-24 for selling cigarettes or alcohol to minors.
On Oct. 23, an 18-year-old decoy was able to purchase alcohol at a hotel bar and at a gas station. In both cases, the employee did not ask for identification. A 24-year-old woman was ticketed for selling a six-pack of beer at the gas station. A 41-year-old man was ticketed for selling a beer at the bar. Both establishments were reported to the Michigan Liquor Control Commission. Eighteen other establishments refused to sell alcohol to the decoy.
On Oct. 24, a 16-year-old decoy attempted to purchase tobacco at 20 establishments, including gas stations, liquor stores and drug stores. Eighteen passed the test; two failed. In both of those incidents, the employee asked for identification but then sold the tobacco anyway. Both were ticketed.
Teen found by tracking dog
A 14-year-old boy with Asperger’s Syndrome who was missing for two hours from his home on Broadway was found with the help of a tracking dog.
The sheriff’s department dog was called in to assist Lake Orion Police. The canine sniffed an article of the boy’s clothing, and then found him a short distance away.
