A few days before the is set to begin, the Michigan State Police bomb squad responded to assist in disarming a device resembling a pipe bomb at .
Oakland County Sheriff's Office received a call about a suspicious package that a maintenance worker discovered near a service gate on Joslyn Road at approximately 1:10 p.m. Thursday.
Michigan State Police bomb squad responded and ensured the device was safe. The OCSO Forensic Science Laboratory is conducting tests on the device, and OCSO detectives are investigating the incident.
"We have no credible information of any specific threat to the club or the upcoming Senior Open tournament, or that this is anything other than a random act," Sheriff Michael Bouchard said in a statement. "However, we are taking this matter very seriously and any person that has information on this incident is urged to call the Sheriff's Office at (248) 858-4950 or CRIME STOPPERS at 1-800-222 TIPS.”
