Westland police have arrested three people believed to have been involved in an attack on a U.S. Army veteran who stepped in to stop the men from harassing a clerk at the 7-Eleven store on St. Venoy Road in Westland.

Adam Wagner told WDIV, Channel 4, that the men shouted racial and homophobic slurs and made disparaging remarks about the military before they began punching and kicking him Thursday.

Wagner, who had served with the Army in Afghanistan, had military insignias on his car and he believes that’s why he was targeted in the Thursday attack.

After the attack, Wagner went to a nearby home to get help. He suffered a broken nose, required stitches in his lip and had difficulty seeing because his eye was swollen shut.

The Westland Police Department made the arrests Saturday after receiving tips from the public on the identity of the three men, whose identities have not yet been released.

Very curious as to why the identities of the thugs who did this have not been released.

Should be investigated as a hate crime. My understanding is that the 3 suspects are of Middle Eastern descent. Seems they singled this man out as a US service member, this seems racist in nature to me.

If the suspects are not American citizens and are found guilty of the crime they should be deported. We have enough home grown criminals as it is.
