Police Ask Public’s Help in Identifying ‘Grinch’ Who Stole Christmas Gifts

A homeowner's video surveillance showed images of a man who allegedly stole packages moments after they were delivered – twice on the same day.

The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office is asking the public’s help in determining the identity of a man suspected of stealing packages from the front porch of a home in the 2000 block of Silver Maple in recent weeks.

Home video surveillance footage showed an unidentified white male driving a dark-colored Chrysler minivan removing packages from the front porch and then driving away.

Two deliveries were made to the home on the afternoon of Dec. 16, Lt. Daniel R. Toth, the Orion Station commander for the sheriff’s department, said in a news release.

Within moments, Toth said, the suspect – who was wearing an orange hoodie and black baseball cap – pulled into the driveway, walked up to the porch and then allegedly stole the packages.

Investigators have circulated pictures taken from the homeowner’s security system in hopes of identifying the suspect in these thefts and others similar incidents, Toth said. Anyone with information is asked to call the Orion Township station at (248) 393-0090.
