The Lake Orion Village Council voted unanimously Monday night to allow the to issue a "super drunk" ticket to drivers operating a motor vehicle with a blood alcohol content of .17 or more – twice the legal limit.

The first reading of the ordinance was approved at the . According to a report by Lake Orion Police Chief Jerry Narsh, the ordinance specifies that when someone violates the ordinance consequences must include at least one of the following: 360 hours or less of community services, jail up to 180 days and fines between $200 and $700.

"I recommend adoption, the effect of having this as a local ordinance will be to allow us to issue a ticket at the time of the arrest as opposed to seeking charges from the Oakland County Prosecutor's Office, and as a result will allow the Village to capture our portion of fines and costs as we would in other local ordinance drunk driving arrests," Narsh said in his written report.
