Orion-Area Absentee Votes on Par With Similar Elections

As the polls prepare to open Tuesday for the Lake Orion school bond election, Orion Township Clerk Penny Schults already is reporting a strong absentee voter turnout.

Of the roughly 2,000 ballots requested, about 90 percent had been returned by Monday afternoon, Schults said. Monday is the deadline for absentee ballots.

"Today has been steady, full of absentee voters," Schults said.

While the figure accounts for roughly 20 percent of the absentee turnout for a national election, Schults said the vote is on par with other single-issue elections not featuring candidates seeking office.

Voters will decide on two ballot items as part of a school bond request.
