Mitt Romney Wins in Oakland Township

Here are results from Tuesday's primary election.

Presidential candidate Mitt Romney received the most votes in Oakland Township's on Tuesday.

With 1,736 votes, Romney was far ahead of the other candidates, including Rick Santorum who captured 870. Ron Paul received 271 votes, while Newt Gingrich received 205. Only 205 voters opted to vote democratic on Tuesday.

Oakland Township resident Scott Reed, 54, was one of the many residents that voted for Romney.

"His background experience is better than the rest," Reed explained.

Deputy Clerk for Oakland Township Karen Brennan said everything went smoothly and the polls were steady all day long. About 27.5 percent of registered voters went to the polls, with almost 3,400 residents cast their vote for Tuesday's primary.

According to Brennan a smaller turnout is normal for primary elections, noting that in the 2008 presidential primary 32 percent of voters participated, while 85 percent showed up to vote for the 2008 November election.
