Adams', Stoney Creek's AdamBots Earns FIRST Robotics Honors

The team next competes April 11-13 in the Michigan State Championship Competition at Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti.

Rochester Adams and Stoney Creek's Team 245 and the Bloomfield Hills International Academy's Team 469 earned first place alliance honors over the weekend at the FIRST Robotics Competition at Troy Athens, according to Patch community contributor Rick Drummer.

The team finished in fifth place, out of 40 teams, in the qualification rounds. In the elimination tournament, the team was in the number two alliance with Team 469, from the International Academy in Bloomfield Hills, and Team 4377 from Boyne High School in Boyne City. The alliance was undefeated in the elimination rounds including beating the number one alliance. 

The AdamBots also earned the Quality Award, sponsored by Motorola, which celebrates machine robustness in concept and fabrication.  The AdamBots have 64 students from Adams High School and Stoney Creek High School and are coached by Warren Hildebrandt and Grace Drummer with help from 28 mentors.

According to an Oakland Press report, the Oakland County high school teams earning special awards in Troy included:

  • Motorola Quality: Adams/Stoney Creek
  • Rookie All-Star: Madison
  • Rockwell: International Academy
  • Delphi Engineering: Huron Valley
  • Judge’s: Troy

The AdamBots next compete in the Michigan State Championship Competition at Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti on April 11-13, 2013. They will also compete in the World Championship Competition at the Edward Jones Dome in St. Louis, MO, on April 24-27, 2013.
