'Hot for Teacher' Essayist, Former OU Student Files Lawsuit
Joseph Corlett, 57, who lived in Orion Township at the time, is suing for $2.2 million, citing violation of his constitutional amendments, as well as humiliation and mental anguish.
A former Oakland University student who was suspended from the school last year for writing an essay called "Hot for Teacher," about his attraction to a female professor, has filed a $2.2 million lawsuit against the university, reports state.
According to The Oakland Post, OU's student newspaper, Joseph Corlett, 57, has filed a suit in U.S. District Court in Detroit that names the OU Board of Trustees, President Gary Russi and Vice President of Student Affairs Mary Beth Snyder.
Corlett, who lived in Orion Township at the time he wrote the essay but now lives in Florida, filed the lawsuit on the grounds that his First and 14th Amendment rights were violated, and that he has endured humiliation and mental anguish, the report stated.

After he handed in the essay, he was escorted from the classroom by university police and subsequently suspended.
Deadline Detroit reprinted the essay that Corlett hand-wrote for his English class here. "I'm going to write honestly here with no apology," Corlett's writings begin, in a note to the teacher.

Corlett's Detroit lawyer, Alari Adams, explained the lawsuit to the Detroit Free Press. “In the end, he just ended up getting suspended from school for completing a homework assignment,” Adams said.
