Area runners can soon lace up their sneakers to help raise money for local schools.
Registration for the May 11 5K Hometown Hustle, the signature fundraising event for the Rochester Community Schools Foundation, is now open.
The event, now in its eighth year, has gained momentum in the area recently, drawing about 850 participants in 2012—an increase of about 500 over previous years.
“The Funds raised through the Hometown Hustle are critical to continuing our mission of supporting academics, arts and athletics through student scholarships, mini-grants to educators and cultural and athletic programs,” said Debra Hartman, director of the Rochester Community Schools Foundation and Rochester Community Schools spokesperson. “The 2012 Hometown Hustle raised $22,000 and we are aiming for $25,000 this year. We enthusiastically invite all to participate in this growing community tradition.”
The Hometown Hustle is a morning run on May 11, a Saturday, and brings community members of all ages together to celebrate not only Rochester Community Schools but to enjoy a scenic tour through the historic neighborhoods of downtown Rochester, the Rochester Municipal Park and along the Paint Creek and Clinton River Trails.
The chip-timed 5K Race and Fun Run/Walk are suitable for all caliber of runners and walkers.
Prices from the 2012 evenet will hold steady this year. A family of five can run for $50, while individual registration is $20. K-12 student participation is $10. To register, visit the race sign-up site. Race registration information also is available at RunMichigan.com.
