16 Lake Orion Teachers, Staffers Awarded $12,000 in Grants

Sixteen Lake Orion Community Schools staff members recently received the grants from the Lake Orion Education Foundation for programs and projects to enhance learning.

Diane Dunaskiss, secretary of the Lake Orion Education Foundation, recently presented 16 (LOCS) teachers, counselors and administrative staff with grants to enhance learning within the schools.

"Thanks to all of the community members who contribute to the foundation to make this possible and the teachers who write the grants because it enhances the education of our students," Dunaskiss said.

Sixteen LOCS staff members were announced as recipients of grants at last week's Lake Orion Board of Education meeting at the school district's .

"Thank you for all that you do for our children and for going above and beyond," she said.

  • Mary Bogos, an early childhood teacher at the Community Education Resource Center, was awarded a $1,095.85 grant for a literacy library.
  • Carol Binggeser, science teacher was awarded a $185 grant for a "how the world works" program.
  • Michelle Chappell, psychologist at received $750 for student support team toolkits.
  • Pamela Carron, an early intervention classroom teacher at the Community Education Resource Center, received a $266 grant for an early literacy skills program for children with Down's Syndrome.
  • Molly Dittrich, physical education teacher was awarded $750 for a functional fitness program.
  • Jennifer Goethals, principal at , was awarded a $750 grant for technology for reading.
  • Michele Griswold, Scripps Middle School social studies teacher was the recipient of a $1,500 grant for a mounted projector.
  • Barb Hoffman and Julie Monroe, both counselors, together received a $150 grant for organizational strategies for at-risk students.
  • Gretchen Hynes, fourth-grade teacher at Carpenter Elementary School received a $750 grant for technology for literacy in the classroom.
  • Liza Lauter, language arts teacher at Waldon Middle School received a $1,350 grant for a projector.
  • LeAnn Maddox, computer applications teacher received a $1,350 grant for a classroom projector.
  • Pam Moreman, fifth-grade teacher from received $500 for an education through application program. 
  • Francie Robertson, Pine Tree Elementary fourth-grade teacher was awarded $250 for use in the area of literature and technology.
  • Maureen Schabel, learning resources teacher was awarded $700 for Nooks.
  • Karen Wampuszyc, a science teacher, was the recipient of a $1,615.73 grant for Renaissance Learning Responders.
  • Teresa West, teacher at , was the recipient of a $750 grant for math resource bags.
