Whiz Kids: Oak Arbor Students Donate Flowers to Older Persons' Commission

Each week, the Whiz Kid column spotlights an accomplishment of a student or student group. This week's Whiz Kids are fifth- and sixth-graders from ; they recently helped donate dozens of potted flowers to the in Rochester.

School: Oak Arbor School

Accomplishment: On April 25, fifth- and sixth-grade students from Oak Arbor School in Oakland Township hand-delivered dozens of potted flowers to the Older Persons' Commission in Rochester.

"The flowers were used to accompany the Meals On Wheels that are delivered throughout Oakland County," Oak Arbor teacher Dawn Genzlinger wrote in an email to Patch. "(They) brighten up the day of each recipient."

Key to awesomeness: Under the direction of teacher Nathaniel Brock, the students helped collect, load and transport the flowers to the Older Persons' Commission in Rochester.

The flowers were during Oak Arbor Church's Easter service.

"Attendees brought their flowers to the altar, creating a 'garden,'" wrote Genzlinger. The following day, "The fifth- and sixth-grade students of Nathaniel Brock traveled to the Older Persons' Commission to deliver the flowers for their Meals on Wheels program."
