Lake Orion Swimmer Earns Championship Title at State Finals

Lake Orion High School's Annie Jongekrijg and other swimmers from Stoney Creek High School competed in the Division 1 Swim & Dive Championships this weekend

senior Annie Jongekrijg earned first place in the Girls 100 Yard Freestyle event at the 2011 MHSAA Girls Division 1 Swim & Dive Championships, held Friday and Saturday at Eastern Michigan University.

Jongekrijg finished in 50.32, setting a new Division 1 record and beating last year's championship-winning time of 50.80.

Jongekrijg also earned 2nd place in the 50-yard freestyle event with a time of 23.52 – a split second slower than Jaynie Pulte's winning time of 23.23, which broke a division record.

Lake Orion swimmers Bethany Abramczyk, Courtney McClear, Danielle Kudla and Katie Corcoran also competed in the event, as did seniors Hannah Knapp, Carson Burt, Ariel Niederhauser and Rachel Watton.

The Lake Orion team placed 12th overall out of 37 teams, and Stoney Creek placed 25th.
