Easter Egg Hunt to Benefit Leader Dogs for the Blind

No bunnies but plenty of puppies will be around at the Saturday event put on by Flagstar Bank and other local businesses.

For the third year in a row, volunteers and staff from in Goodison will stuff and hide more than 1,000 colorful plastic eggs for the , which benefits in Rochester Hills.

The event is 1-2 p.m. Saturday at the bank branch at 4542 Orion Rd. and open to all. It features games, temporary tattoos, sack races, spoon races and, of course, the egg hunt itself.

“The leader dogs will be here, and we’ll have puppies and older dogs and all different kinds of dogs," Flagstar Personal Banker Karen Stoffel said. "The kids can pet them."

All proceeds and donations from the event will go to Leader Dogs, and though a donation is not required to participate in the event, it is sincerely appreciated.

Other sponsors this year include The Toffee Store, Friends of the Paint Creek Trail, Jewel Kade, the and the restaurant.

The egg hunt coincides with the , which runs from 2-5 p.m. Saturday at the Paint Creek Cider Mill. The open house will feature refreshments, a silent auction with art donated by Jeanette Locher, free trail maps and a chance to sign up to join the Trail Trekkers Walking Club, Paint Creek Cyclers Club, Trail Beautification Club, Volunteer Trail Patrol or the Event Assistance Brigade. Proceeds from the open house benefit the Friends of the Paint Creek Trail.

“This has been very successful in the past for us," Stoffel said of the egg hunt. "We had about 200 people last year, so we usually have a really good turnout.”

The event is a wonderful community event for the Goodison area because it features many local vendors, Stoffel said. “They’ll have a table set up and have some of their things on the table," she said, adding that the businesses, along with the bank, donate the candy that goes inside the eggs.

"Hopefully it won't rain," Stoffel said with a nervous chuckle. "People tell us how much they love it. It’s great for the community."
