Orion Township's Friends Of The Library Book Sale Returns

The Friends of the Library organization historically generates around $20,000 per year from these three used book sales events for the library.

It’s time again for the Friends of the Library Book Sale at the Orion Township Public Library.

The Friends are a non-profit organization that was started to promote public support of the Orion Township Library, the library in the community, to promote reading, literacy and lifelong learning, and to maintain an association of persons interested in the library. The organization acts in cooperation with the library board and staff, serving as a liaison between the community and library.

Since  1985, the Friends have provided in excess of $260,000 to the library in the way of program funding, equipment/material purchases and monetary contributions.

“There is a great deal of work that is done during all the months leading up to the sale by sorting the books by category and boxing them up and storing them in the back room,” said Pat Belanger, Friends of the Library President. “All of which is necessary to expedite the setting up for the sales.

"These dedicated people do this three times/year and their efforts result in the Friends being able to assist the Library with many programs during the year,” Belanger added.
