Finally, the NCAA Final Four is here. The March Madness 2013 Final Four television schedule begins Saturday with a television schedule that includes Louisville vs. Wichita State followed by Michigan vs. Syracuse. The Vegas lines on the Final Four give Louisville a 9.5-point edge and favor Michigan by 2. "It’s a great opportunity for gymnastic fans and aspiring gymnasts to see high level skills performed right in our community," meet director Maureen Muns of Lake Orion says; the statewide event will be held at Oakland University.
More than 800 young gymnasts from across Michigan, Ohio and Illinois will compete in Rochester this weekend in the annual Motown Madness event. The competition starts Friday and ends Sunday at Oakland University's O'Rena; it is open to the public. The Classic Booster Club of the Gymnastics Training Center in Rochester Hills is hosting the event, which is the largest in the history of the Motown Madness. The Adams High School boys basketball team heads into the state championship bracket with a perfect 20-0 record this week. It's the first boys varsity basketball team to ever finish undefeated. Adams, as well as Stoney Creek, Rochester and Avondale high schools, plays in district competition this week. The Michigan High School Athletic Association event was held Feb. 28-March 2 at the Palace of Auburn Hills.
Rochester's Shwan Shadaia took top honors as several area wrestlers competed in the Michigan High School Athletic Association state wrestling finals Feb. 28-March 2 at the Palace of Auburn Hills. Shadaia took home the Division 1 189-pound crown with a with a 4-3 victory over Clarkston's Chris Calvano to complete the season with the state title and a record of 54-1. Also placing for Rochester Hills were Dean Vettese who took third place at 160 pounds, Kaelan Richards who earned third place at 140 pounds, Justin Kim who took fourth at 112, Shane Shadaia who took seventh at 171 pounds and Josh Wood who took eighth at 125 pounds. The varsity cheer teams from Stoney Creek and Rochester high schools travel to Grand Rapids today to compete in the MHSAA Division 1 state finals. The teams finished first (Stoney Creek) and second (Rochester) at regionals in Troy last weekend to advance to the championship. (Read and watch: Stoney Creek Varsity Cheer Rocks; Sets Return to State Finals) The cheer finals will be shown live on the MHSAA online TV channel here; the broadcast begins at 6 p.m. Competing against the two Rochester schools for the Division 1 title: 2012 champion Southgate Anderson, East Kentwood, Grandville, Hartland, Hudsonville and Sterling Heights Stevenson. Stoney Creek brought home the state title in 2010; Rochester placed first in 2009 and 2007.

Cougars win regional crown; Rochester High also advances to states championships in Grand Rapids next week.
TROY — The Stoney Creek High School varsity cheer team saved its best for the final round, scoring 315 points in the third round to clinch the Div. 2-1 regional championship on Saturday afternoon. The Cougars finished with 775.64 to earn a return trip to the state finals in Grand Rapids next week, where Stoney Creek finished third in its division. Rochester High, who took a 0.10 lead into the final round, finished in second with a final score of 772.34. Southgate Anderson (3rd, 768.64 points) and Sterling Heights Utica Stevenson (4th, 765.52) were the other two teams in an 11-team field to earn a berth in the state finals.
