Official said governor's State of the State full of openness and ideas to solve problems.
State Rep. Brad Jacobsen, R-Oxford, took Lake Orion Township Supervisor Chris Barnett as his guest to Gov. Rick Snyder's third State of the State address Wednesday night. Afterwards, Jacobsen had this to say: "Tonight the governor gave a great overview of how far our state has come in the last two years and also where Michigan needs to head in the future. We have made great strides in our efforts to get Michigan back on track, but work to revitalize our economy is far from over. The governor has always been extremely honest about our state's problems, and I have truly appreciated his openness to various ideas and solutions for these problems. "I truly believe our state is headed in the right direction and I'm confident that continuing to …

The new Orion Township Board of Trustees was sworn in Tuesday.
It wasn’t quite business as usual Monday night when the outgoing Orion Township Board of Trustees met for the final time. Though business was conducted, there was also a lot of appreciation for the three outgoing board members, in particular Supervisor JoAnn Van Tassel. Even the man who won her seat, new Supervisor Chris Barnett, had kind words. “You have been an invaluable asset to our community over the last 30 years,” he said. “And I want to publicly say that every person up there has been very open to me in this transition. … It’s to the benefit of our entire community that every one of you have sat down with me and gone over things, as well as our department heads. … “The bad news for you, JoAnn, is I came across your home phone …

Terms for the Orion Township Board of Trustees are up Nov. 20.
A band of residents came together Thursday night at Oscars Bar & Grill in Orion Township, five of them announcing their intentions of running for Orion Township office in this year’s upcoming election. The get-together was a re-election campaign kick-off for current Orion Township Trustee John Steimel, who announced he has hopes of being elected for his third term this year. Steimel, who views himself as fiscally conservative, thinks there needs to be some changes in township management and hopes to stick around to be a part of the positive changes he sees in the future. “I really toyed with the idea of whether I wanted to do this again or not … but I started to meet some really good people here in the township and realized our work isn’t …
Business development is his No. 1 goal, he said, if elected this year; John Steimel also announces he's running for re-election as trustee.
Dozens of people retreated to Oscars Bar & Grill in Orion Township on Thursday night to give their support to current Orion Township Trustee John Steimel who is running for re-election this year. At the gathering Chris Barnett, an active Orion Township community member, took the opportunity to announce he is running to unseat current Orion Township Supervisor, JoAnn Van Tassel. The Orion Township Board of Trustees terms end Nov. 20 of this year and both Barnett and Steimel noted they have hopes to make a refreshing change to the current township initiative. Barnett, 34, who currently sits on the township's Planning Commission, said he does not have a political agenda and if elected will approach running the township as if it were a …
