He coached Pontiac High School and tells Stoney crowd they should be in the playoffs next year.
Stoney Creek High School football players met their new coach after school on Thursday. They heard their new leader's message loud and clear. "I don't see any reason why this group of guys I'm looking at won't be in the playoffs next year," Brad Zube told about 50 players. Zube, the former football coach at Pontiac High School, accepted the job this week. He replaces Calvin Gross, who had been with the program for 10 years. "Brad brings a different view to the program," said Stoney Creek athletic director Shane Redshaw. "We liked his energy and enthusiasm. He's about the kids, for the kids and willing to do what he can to make the kids successful." Redshaw said the school had 22 applicants for the head coach position and interviewed nine …

The Highlanders finish their postseason run with a 7-4 record overall and a new all-time rushing record holder.
The Adams High School Highlanders (7-4) were eliminated by the Port Huron Big Reds (10-1) in a 27-21 loss on the road during Round Two of the playoffs. Three straight flags started the game – all false starts on the Highlander offense and Big Red defense. It was a sign of things to come from the referee crew who called numerous penalties on the Highlander team. Most penalties were false starts caused by a noisy Big Red fan base, and many came on crucial plays, including what would have been a lead-recapturing touchdown in the fourth quarter. Adams head coach Tony Patritto summed it up, saying it was "the worst game they played all year." Best Play: Adams head coach Tony Patritto called a passing play on fourth-and-10 in the first half, …

Tony Annese lifts the Highlanders over the Wildcats, 26-20.
In the playoffs, you win or you go home. The Highlanders aren't coming home just yet. Adams High School beat Oxford High School 26-20 on Friday night to advance to the next round of the MHSAA football playoffs. It plays Port Huron next weekend. Tony Annese, coming off a five touchdown performance against Stoney Creek last week, scored three times on the ground and threw another to Jack Twitty. In Week 6 of the regular season, Oxford beat Adams in overtime, giving the Highlanders a perfect reason for revenge. The Highlanders defense came out red hot, forcing the Wildcats to punt in their first three possessions. The offense was equally scorching, scoring on two out of their first three drives and giving Adams a 14-0 lead. The end of the …

The Oakland Activities Association will be well represented when the playoffs kick off Friday.
The book is closed on the 2011 Oakland Activities Association high school football regular season. Division titles came down to the final week in the OAA Blue and OAA Red. Birmingham Groves earned a share of the Blue title with its win Friday over Birmingham Seaholm. The Groves Falcons and North Farmington each had 6-2 records in the Blue. Lake Orion had a chance to shut out Clarkston from a share of the Red title when the schools faced each other Friday, but the Lake Orion Dragons couldn’t get it done. They allowed the Wolves to come back in the fourth quarter and ended up losing 38-31. The teams shared the Red title with 6-1 records. The Highlanders play at Oxford High School at 7 p.m. Friday night.
At Adams High School, it's easy to pick out who will be playing on the blue turf at Oxford High School on Friday night. How easy? Members of the Highlander football team are sporting bleached-blonde mohawks as part of the team's MHSAA playoff tradition. This is their 15th consecutive year of postseason play. "It's a big game, the biggest game we've had so far," said Mike Fisher, a senior linebacker for the Highlanders. Fisher and other players met on Sunday night — "Selection Sunday" — to hear who they would play this week. They had dinner together and worked on their hairstyles, which Fisher said is a playoff tradition for the team. Coach Tony Patritto has been at the helm of the Highlanders for the past nine years. “This is the first …

More than 170 players and cheerleaders will be sporting pink in the second annual Charity Bowl between Stoney Creek and Adams.
The final game of the regular high school football season will be a special one in Rochester Hills. Stoney Creek will wear pink instead of blue and gold, and Adams will ditch their brown and gold to wear white during the 2011 CrossTown Charity Bowl on Friday night. The second annual Charity Bowl is now a community-wide event; last year Stoney Creek played Oxford in the special game. The Charity Bowl is truly a student-driven event, with participation from the teams, cheerleaders, bands and National Honor Society. Players and cheerleaders raise money to have the name of a friend or family member affected by cancer on the back of their jerseys or uniforms. But the players and cheerleaders are not the only participants in the Charity Bowl…

Seaholm, North Farmington and Troy Athens are headed to the postseason after big wins Friday night.
There’s still work to be done. The playoffs are a week away, but some teams are still trying to get a seat at the table. With one game left to play, eight teams in the Oakland Activities Association are one win away from automatically qualifying. There’s also the matter of settling the division titles. Birmingham's Seaholm and Groves high schools still have a shot to grab a share of the OAA Blue title and Lake Orion can win the Red outright with a win in its season finale. Quote of the Week: At a recent Bloomfield Hills school board meeting, concern was voiced over the low numbers of playes on the Andover football team. The question was asked: Would the school be able to field a team next season? At the Barons homecoming game Friday, …
