The public is invited to comment on the possible acquisition of 29 E. Front Street during a DDA board meeting Tuesday, March 12, at the Village Council Chambers.
The 13th annual event on Friday, May 10, and Saturday, May 11, will feature garden-related products and arts and crafts for sale, home improvement service providers, speakers, food and more.
Board members will vote on a proposal for the vacant property at 29 E. Front St. following a public meeting Tuesday, Feb. 12, at the Village Offices.
The Lake Orion Downtown Development Authority invites business owners and residents to discuss a potential property acquisition and parking lot project during a public meeting Tuesday, Feb. 12. DDA Executive Director Suzanne Perreault said Dia Zaraga, who owns Sagebrush Cantina and several other downtown properties, has offered to donate 29 E. Front St. to the organization – but, with a catch. The building at that site, which has stood vacant for several years, would have to be razed and the property turned into a parking lot. Zaraga could not be reached for comment. "Parking is something that's pretty crucial downtown," Perreault said. "The parking lot is not cheap. We would have to suspend a lot of our other projects to put in our …

The recently opened Broadway location is the second for Pizzeria Dolce, which has another store in Clarkston.
A new pizzeria has opened on Broadway in Lake Orion, and the only thing fresher than Pizzeria Dolce is its ingredients, the owner says. “We actually use everything fresh. The pineapples, even we use (fresh) prosciutto and gouda cheese,” owner Dan Nestorovski said. “Everything's basically made from scratch.” This is the second location for Pizzeria Dolce. Nestorovski said owned multiple pizza franchises before opening his own restaurant. “I've been in the pizza business most of my life,” he said. Nestorovski said he wanted Pizzera Dolce to be aesthetically pleasing and to stand out. “I think it's just the modern sleek, unique, pizzeria. It's not like your typical pizzeria place,” Nestorovski said. “Unlike some of these pizza places that …

Over a year ago the Lake Orion Downtown Development Authority (DDA) started looking at ways to extend the Paint Creek Trail into downtown Lake Orion and found the best way to go about the task was to install a new crosswalk across Atwater Street and create a pathway through Lake Orion Lumber's property. Though the council approved the DDA moving forward with the project at Tuesday's meeting at Village Hall, Lake Orion Lumber still has to sign an agreement with the village before the DDA can proceed with creating the …

Students are collecting donations for the Lake Orion park through March 23.
Students from Stadium Drive Elementary School of the Arts are taking on a unique project this year: They're adopting Meek's Park. Meek's Park is a park in downtown Lake Orion that is operated by the Village. Patti Lareau, a third-grade teacher at Stadium Drive, said she didn't even know the park existed until recently when she was walking near the Orion Art Center with her family. Since then, the Village of Lake Orion Manager Paul Zelenak and Suzanne Perreault, executive director for the Downtown Development Authority, have taken Stadium Drive students on a tour of the park. "We didn't even know the park existed because there isn't a sign for it on the main entrance-way on Broadway in downtown," Lareau said. "I mentioned the lack of …

I remember 20 years ago when former Orion Township trustee Burke Cueny proposed a multi-level parking deck structure be built behind the Village police station. The idea was immediately shot down but the complaints about parking in the Village has continued non-stop for the past 20 years. Something has to be done.   more ›
