The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch for Oakland County as of Thursday morning. The watch, which is in effect for all of Southeast Michigan, will remain in effect through 6 p.m. Thursday. The NWS has also issued a hazardous weather outlook and flood watch for Southeastern Michigan with severe thunderstorms possible this afternoon. According to the NWS forecast, thunderstorms expected after 2 p.m. today could be severe, with large hail, damaging winds and heavy rain. Winds may gust as high as 33 miles per hour. Ready for more snow? Forecasts call for between 4 and 8 inches in the Lake Orion and Oakland Township areas starting Thursday afternoon. According to a winter storm watch issued by the National Weather Service, a strengthening low pressure system will move into the southern Great Lakes region on Thursday, with the highest snow accumulations predicted along and north of M-59. The heaviest snow is expected Thursday evening, according to the weather statement. The high temperature is predicted to be 31 degrees on Thursday; the low is expected to be 26 degrees. The story of southeast Michigan's wild January weather continues, as forecasters call for a 20-degree temperature drop overnight accompanied by high winds and snow. Expect snow and a mix of freezing rain Sunday night and into Monday morning in Oakland Township and Lake Orion.
The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for much of southeastern Michigan, including Oakland County. The advisory is in effect from 7 p.m. Sunday night until 6 a.m. Monday morning. According to the NWS, Michigan can expect to see snow showers change to a mix of snow and freezing rain around midnight. Air temperatures are then expected to rise above freezing by 3 a.m., which will then support another changeover to rain. Ice accumulations of up to a tenth of an inch are possible, mainly on elevated surfaces. Snowfall accumulations of 1 to 3 inches will be possible in some areas, including Oakland Township and Lake Orion. According to the NWS, here's what to watch out for:
