Funds will help communities and developers determine if contaminated land can be reclaimed and redeveloped.
Oakland County will receive a $600,000 federal grant to help local communities and developers determine if contaminated land can be reclaimed and redeveloped. The grant was awarded by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and given to the Oakland County Brownfield Coalition communities of Farmington Hills, Ferndale, Hazel Park, Madison Heights, Pontiac and Southfield, according to a recent Oakland County press release. These communities will each receive $60,000. The remaining $240,000 will be used in other Oakland County communities, the release states. Radio system will allow the agencies to communicate directly with each other and coordinate responses to cross-border emergencies.
Officials are hoping to boost safety for Oakland County and Detroit residents with an addition to the county's OakWIN interoperable radio system. The system will now use data from Detroit to make a communication link between all Oakland County and Detroit police, fire and EMS radios, according to a recent Oakland County press release. Using OakWIN, the public safety agencies will be able to communicate directly with each other and coordinate responses to cross-border emergencies. Campgrounds at two county parks open for camping starting May 17.
Camping season is almost here at two Oakland County park campgrounds. On Friday, May 17, Addison Oaks and Groveland Oaks campgrounds will be open for camping, according to the Destination Oakland web site. Residents can camp in a tent or RV at an individual campsite, group area or cabin and enjoy sandy beaches, boat and bike rentals, fishing, playgrounds and trails. The parks also offer themed weekends including music, crafts, kids' activities, group games and more. Addison Oaks County Park is located at 1480 West Romeo Road in Leonard. Patterson says county has added about 45,000 jobs between 2012 and 2013.
Oakland County Executive L. Brooke Patterson says he is optimistic about the county's economic outlook, bouncing back after losing 60,000 jobs in 2009 by adding about 45,000 jobs between 2012 and 2013. Patterson made his remarks April 25 at the Economic Outlook Luncheon at the Marriot in Troy. Featured speakers included George Fulton and Donald Grimes of the Center for Labor Market Research.
